When Filing for a DUNS Takes Longer Than Developing Your App
A Few Lessons We Learned
This summer we decided to try our hand at mobile game development. We settled on Unity (more on that choice later) and came up with an idea. Huzzah! After that we jumped right into design and development. Fast forward 3 months, and we had a fully functional beta version.
Now to show the world our shiny new toy! But first we needed our Apple Developer Account. . . Which needed a DUNS. . . Which needed an LLC. . . Oy vey.
08.22 So we started with the LLC.
This one took awhile folks. . .
09.09 Received said LLC.
woot woot!
10.03 Then came the DUNS. . . (round one)
We filed through Apple, but apparently SC was slow at adding us to their online database.
10.10 Ok lets try this again! (hello hurricane)
So Apple sent the request over to Dun and Bradstreet. However, SC was currently in a state of emergency due to hurricane Matthew, and the request expired.
10.12 Well they say third time’s the charm. . .
Here goes nothing. . .
10.18 Hurray! Now wait 14 days. . .
Aghh the restlessness of it all.
11.01 Three months later — success!

Needless to say, we didn’t do everything right, and not everything went our way. If we could do it all again, we’d focus on the LLC and DUNS and Apple Account right off the bat. It would have saved us a lot of anxiety.
TL;DR Start legal early.
